Big Springs Creek Ranch
Located in the heart of the Pahsimeroi Valley with views of Idaho’s highest mountain ranges, the 1,234-acre Big Springs Creek Ranch boasts miles of spring creek, extensive wildlife habitat and ideal home sites for a future owner. The ranch, and its spring creek, provides habitat for big game, waterfowl, upland birds and an amazing array of fish. The ranch has long been a top conservation priority in the region thanks to critical spawning, brooding and rearing habitat for endangered wild Chinook salmon and steelhead.
Since 2008 Beartooth Capital has worked closely with The Nature Conservancy, Idaho Fish and Game and many other partners to protect the property and restore its rich riparian habitat, spring creeks and upland areas. Together with our partners we have removed irrigation diversions and stream barriers, substantially enhancing the in-stream flow in Big Springs Creek and enabling wild Chinook salmon, wild steelhead and native trout populations to move up and down stream as never before. The results have been truly remarkable. In most years before the restoration, no wild Chinook salmon made it to this part of the valley to spawn, with a high of just two salmon spawning sites (called redds) ever counted. After restoration, 69 redds were recorded in the fall of 2009. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of all of our partners, the threatened wild salmon and steelhead populations have a higher chance of recovery in the Pahsimeroi River Valley.
