Clover Valley Ranch

The Sierra Nevada is know throughout the world for its rugged beauty, rich biodiversity, year-round recreational opportunities, colorful history and plentiful timber and water resources. Clover Valley Ranch is located in the Northern Sierra, in the heart of the stunningly scenic Red Clover Valley, approximately 45 minutes from Reno, Nevada and one hour fifteen minutes from Lake Tahoe.

Red Clover Valley is a rarity in the Sierra, since it remains undeveloped and largely as it was a hundred years ago. Our conservation partners were concerned about the threat of inappropriate development of the ranch, in particular due to its unusually high-density zoning. During due diligence we began working with our conservation partners to protect and restore the ranch’s important open space and wildlife habitat, with a major multi-year creek and meadow restoration program underway that will include more than 1,000 acres of the ranch as well as land and creek on upstream and downstream neighboring properties. This work will restore the ranch’s important mountain meadows as well as the creek and its historic trophy trout fishery, transforming the property into a top quality recreational ranch and substantially enhancing agricultural productivity and aesthetics.

The property contains extensive montane meadow, montane riparian, wetland and riverine habitats. These habitats support diverse species including rainbow trout, mule deer, yellow warbler, willow flycatcher, greater sandhill crane, bald eagle, various waterfowl species, and rare plants. The property also contains significant Mountain Maidu (native American) cultural sites including native plant gathering, camp, and hunting sites.
